Cancer Today: Road Map for Tomorrow
RACE to rein-in-cancer hosted the first 2-day oncology conference in joint association with MICRD and Indian Science Congress Association on 18th-19th November, 2017.
The theme of the conference was Cancer Today: Road Map for Tomorrow. Around 30 experts of national and international fame shared their views on different aspects of the disease – future prospects for cancer treatment; psychiatric aspects of breast cancer; strategy for palliative care; economising cancer care; role of holistic treatment including alternative medicine, Ayurveda, yoga and diet; recovery post cancer surgery; psychological issues faced by cancer patients.
This is a disease that doesn’t only affect the body; it impacts the very core and soul of the patient. A 360° pollution of the environment and faulty eating habits aggravate the condition of the patient. In line with this argument, the role of adjuvant therapy was discussed at length to highlight its rationale – that, when a disease tends to overtake the inherent healing power of the body, it is this healing power that needs to be nurtured and strengthened.
RACE to rein-in-cancer proposed a simple list of the DOs and the DON’Ts to consider in the race against this deadly disease.

The high points of the conference were the participation of a team of teenage NCC cadets, who work to bring about cancer awareness at the grass root level, and an engaging session of testimony of survivors. The event concluded with a panel discussion that brought forth many interesting viewpoints and aspects to light.
